Welcome to Part 3 of Using YouTube Video to Grow Business. This episode is about The Landscape of What's Involved as outlined in two important documents from YouTube:

• 1) The YouTube Creator's Playbook and

There is a lot of territory covered in these two documents in terms of breadth, but not in much depth. which creates a opportunity for us to be of service to people actually interested in using YouTube video to grow their business in a scalable and sane way. so in this video I travel across it. Once you realize how vast the territory of this opportunity is, you also quickly realize that there's more to this.  It quickly becomes clear that one has to have the right mindset and approach to developing and sustaining a full-blown YouTube video programming initiative that actually does grow business, so there's also a personal development piece to this as well.

Part 1 - Introduction - Think Video and Get Rich

There's been a lot on my mind recently about how to use low-cost almost no cost web video technology to grow business supporting my growing list of small business, non-profit, government, and enterprise clientele. At the same time, I have been reading some excellent books about wealth-creation and actualizing prosperity.. and so the mind is a beautiful thing... What's been  unfolding is a course ... Think Video and Get Rich that practically applies lessons learned to actually achieving some remarkable outcomes...like entire channels of marvelous content that can help develop multiple communities in our now 21st Century world. Here are applications for this that I been working on thus far:

• Community Resource Development Television - People watch it and contribute to it as part of growing physical world and online community
  
  
• Small Business Development Television - Small business owners watch this and contribute to it so that they can do better job of not only just surviving but also thriving in a now 21st century world.
  
  
• Health and Wellness Television - All the local naturopaths and yoga instructors I know still aren't taking advantage of new low cost almost free web television to grow their business. If they mastered the web television thing... their businesses would flourish.  There are several health and wellness shows on traditional cable television to learn from... as a point of departure, and web television using now Google+ HangOuts sessions could be even more social.
  
  
• Non Profit Capacity Building Television - Executive directors, their development people and countless volunteers, as well as organizational members can all benefit from quality content that they watch and that they contribute to that communicates how to develop non-profit capacity in a rapidly changing, 21st century world. All kinds of organizations could use some help achieving their mission and their vision in a now even more competitive marketplace.
  
  
• Government Human Services Television - Local, Regional, National, and International Governments could also use some help with empowering entire communities and neighborhoods to address critical issues of health, enterprise innovation, employment, and continual learning by authoring some of their own "how-to" web television content in a specially-developed social learning online virtaul space that I can design as a communications and learning architect.
  
  
• Social Venture Partnership Television - Even large corporations are finally starting to get wiser about becoming authentically involved in front-running projects and new initiatives that create win-win scenarios for multiple stakeholders.. not just for the "1 percent". They need to learn from and become involved in front-running initiatives by community-stakeholders that actually work. Microsoft has been considered by some to be an "Evil Empire"... and Google itself ...as it connects its numerous properties is next. Getting more socially involved and promoting heart-centered applications of their technology can greatly improve their brand.
  
  
• ...And on and on - Creatiivity is the source of unlimited properity once folks learn how to tap into it and leverage it... which is what I am committed to help orchestrate.

Ira Glass's Wisdom-sharing is Worth Blogging, Tweeting, and Google +ing About

This morning I was thinking about what I and other creative small business entrepreneurs need to hear... in spite of all the hype from Internet marketing gurus who claim that they can help you get there way quicker...just by buying their latest, greatest online learning product offering, even though their own learning path to excellence took a lot longer and was a lot more painful.  

Then BINGO!, someone sends me this excellent video done by Ira Glass on YouTube that is way more honest...and way more enlightening that relates to what I have been personally experiencing myself....on the one hand, I have been given the gift of good taste... knowing what I am striving for, yet on the other hand, getting there can take a while.

Wow, am I grateful for all that I have learned thus far, and what I have been able to accomplish both for myself as well as for my growing list of customers who also share the "long view" of what it takes to succeed....and am I humbly happy to learn even more..as together we learn and master new things...enjoying both the ride as well as the destination...working closely together...moving the business forward.

It's not what folks...looking for instant gratification want to hear...but it is the Truth... with a big T. Of course that doesn't preclude flashes of Divine Inspiration, and "special insider tips"  that can help you hit the jackpot more quickly, but struggle and plain hard work, even with all that, is STILL part of the equation... any lottery winner can tell you that. True prosperity and authentic happiness is a deeper and broader phenomenon than what the instant gratification folks understand.

I am really ecstatic about the potential power of web television as a way of driving more business. Web Television Can Be Inspirational... Look at Young Demias Jimerson

This morning I am most grateful for a social Internet that still celebrates all things positive. Here's a great story about 11 year-old football star and middle schooler, Demias Jimerson from Arkansas who is so good ...that they benched him for making too many touchdowns...invoking an obscure "Madre Hill Rule". Check the way this young man carries himself and how he communicates...even in spite of it. There are multiple "wins" ...and "take-away" lessons in this story including him stating what his priorities are. Check it out.

Watch the video. Web television... authored by communities themselves can be just as powerful... if not more so, when positive stories are shared that can build community...locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Blogger's Dynamic Views Are Potentially A Gamechanger

This morning, I am reeling with excitement over Blogger's new Dynamic Views.  Here's a video on YouTube that runs through seven new layouts. Personally, it makes a lot of sense to go this way than it does to implement a timeline for all your content, no matter how trivial on Facebook. This could be a real game-changer.  I welcome your own comments and thoughts about Blogger dynamic views. Which ones do you like? Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth... Has found me

This morning I am again resonating "abundantly" after having a book by Eric Butterworth Spiritual Economics "find me" ...right when I needed it to find me. For as long as I can remember, I have been subtlely aware of a magnificent, peaceful, omniscient, "omni-presence" that was not the same as the incessant mostly negative "chatter" of my ego-dominated thoughts trying to make my way in a competitive world, socially-defined by scarcity, fear, bidding, market share, limited resources, ultra-aggressive sales practices, charlatans, crooks, gangsters, drug addicts, ignorance, hate, violence, war, and the walking dead.  

What's been really great is that lately, the awareness of this omni-presence has continued to unfold...and more rapidly too... as my ego has been knocked down multiple notches by this "economy"...or so I thought. But instead of being demolished by it all, I am now finding peace, joy, and ...a marvelous feeling of abundance... that is already on its way.... as I get clear about what it is that I want, ... not only for myself, and  for my family, but also for the world and human family. I can also even now see my bank account balance increasing...even before it's happened...as I continue to be led to the Source...of all wealth... in the Divinity of the Human Spirit...revealed in is best light..rather than in darkness.

Now, what I am realizing is that what's been going on, has been part of something much larger, that is continuing to fold... that is taking me ...exactly... to what I need to discover about myself... and where the true source of my power emanates from.. where True Prosperity is to be discovered and how to tap into that...and and how to realize it...manifest it.  And so this book by Eric Butterworth a Unity church minister... "found" me.... and right after another excellent read, by Wallace D. Wattles The Science of Getting Rich "found me" as I was inside of someone's auto-responding  e-mail marketing "conversion" engine. Butterworth's work is refinement of Wattle's work...most probably as the outcome of more "Divine" unfolding since he wrote his book in 1911.  See it and other great reads in my Amazon-powered New World Virtual Bookstore .. These books are also readily available in most public libraries so you don't even have to buy them.

Life ...and the history of consciousness... is a marvelous mystery as it continues to unfold... and already it taking shape in the form of a new of great  works "brewing" inside of me... I am reminded of Hegel and his marvelous work, the Phenomenology of Mind (Spirit) that he wrote at age 39 that moved me as a younger man, as a graduate student at UC Berkeley. Enough words for now... Now all I have to do is just discipline my mind not to get in the way...of all that is good.. abundant... and already on its way. Call me if you'd like to connect and share this abundance with me... The Oprah Winfrey Network Will Be A Learning Experience For Many... Including Us

This morning I am reflecting and flowing positive energy about  Oprah Winfrey's new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) cable network .... and the learning experience that this will be for many stakeholders... including me here at New World Communications...with my own fledgling web television "channel". 

Don't laugh. Not when you see this where this poor African American girl born to a teenage single mother from rural Mississippi has taken her life... and millions of other peoples lives and from all walks of life. Wow, I am filled with joy just thinking and and feeling The Oprah Winfrey Phenomenon.. and the lessons it teaches... Multiple stakeholders...are watching to see what lessons come next...beginning on January 1, 2011. See her December 10th "sneak peek". 

One lesson that I am already getting.. is that in this new chapter...members of Oprah audiences will be encouraged to create their web television "channels"...See her page encouraging viewers to do this. Oprah brilliantly intends to leverage "crowd sourcing" and the power of audience web video to fuel innovation and develop extraordinary content ...that she already knows will "bubble" up. Look what she did with Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and Nate Berkus and some of the members of her own audience.  See my recent  blog about this citing Chris Anderson's TED Talk about the Power of Web Video Fueling Innovation. And also see front-running examples of this coming out of the poorest nations. See my recent post about this...focusing own excellent community-authored television coming out of India. Oprah also got the new learning right when she rapped the entire world around her conversations with Eckhart Tolle and his bestselling book, A New Earth. See it in my New World Virtual Bookstore  (I facilitated an Oprah Book Club group and extended the experience using web conferencing after Oprah modeled the experience using Skype. )

The other lessons to learn from are to be found  in the industry conversations about the new world television business model... that is now taking shape before our very eyes. Read and learn about how commercial television is paid for and how success is measured and you may discover some of your own lights becoming turned on. 

My own "lights" sure are. The great thing about experiential learning.. is that you can learn from one best practice and practically apply it to another... while putting your own spin on top of that. That's what Oprah even talked about in a recent interview by someone she learned from, Barbara Walters herself.

Ustream has both web television low end... as well as a High End... Nice!!

This afternoon I am again flowing positive energy... with the discovery that folks at Ustream.tv...have both a web television "Low End"...e..g. using no-cost and low-cost Ustream instant webcasting as well as "High End" professional Global Production services. Wow... does finding more about Ustream help ...fill in the blanks... and fix "the communications disconnect" that I have been experiencing...seeing gorgeous top notch televised big event video ...with the Ustream name on it... streaming gorgeously from C-Span and even from some local conferences...here in Seattle... and being unhappy at the kind of quality I have been experiencing working with their low-end offering and seeing funky stuff being webcasted by some of my consulting and coaching friends with the sane lower quality issues.

So BINGO!  everything changed after I went back to Ustream.tv's website and found their Production Services page and the kind of high end extra gear and expertise they and their contract production team were using...like broadcast quality gear and NewTek's TriCaster. So wow... is it nice to now have both of these resources ...now at my disposal. Look out world!  Here comes New World Communications... now with a greatly expanded ...full spectrum offering of both low end... as well as high end web television-based and conferenced based ..new tools and strategies... 

So what about that regional or national conference that your organization has been talking about...that's in the planning stages? CIO Magazine Has Good Article About The Schoolhouse of the Future

This morning I am flowing positive energy after reading Chris Yeh's article on "The Schoolhouse of the Future" in the December 2010 issue of Chief Learning Officer magazine. This a nice article that brings together three emerging trends in learning that are rapidly becoming part of that "new world communications landscape" that I've personally been paying attention to and blogging about.

One emerging trend is what Jeff Howe in a June 2006 Wired magazine article coined as "crowdsourcing" in his article, "The Rise of Crowdsourcing". Since then the meaning of "crowdsourcing" itself continues to evolve driven by people defining it. (See wikipedia). One is example cited is using a "crowd" of people as a "source" of information contributing to a web-based Wiki. or community-authored information website, typically using a text type format. Wikipedia itself is a prime example of this. 

The second important emerging trend that the article acknowledges is the power of web video that fast-forwards innovative learning and it cites KhanAcademy.org as a shining example of this, where millions of people are learning by watching short 12 minute videos. Citing the power of web video for innovation is what I just blogged about..just yesterday..after getting ecstatic over Chris Anderson's web video-based TED Talk.

The third and newest emergent trend that Yeh sites is the development of learning "apps" for mobile devices. Actually if you publish your video learning content on YouTube you can already deliver mobile learning, but what the development community is interested in is mobile applications they can sell, so don't be surprised if you see more and webcasting and web conferencing companies also extending their capability to mobile devices. The folks at Ustream.tv are already tauting this..however the jury is still out as to whether mobile users using 4G networks have enough bandwidth to send and receive video of acceptable quality. Changes in codecs and standards are own their way that will of course improve the situation. 

In the meantime, it not too early to jump in now, especially when it comes to leveraging low-cost, almost no cost resources that already exist... with that special "secret sauce" that can make all the difference in the world... value innovation. Telestream's Wirecast 4 - Turns your computer into a TV studio

This morning, celebrating all things that I am grateful for..right before Thanksgiving, I celebrate my continuing journey across a new world communications landscape that prominently includes authoring one's own television programming in it..and even webcasting some of it "live". Wirecast 4 from Telestream.net is one such product that can turn your computer into a "live" TV studio.  See their video overview.

Wirecast 4 is desktop software ($449) that can add a lot of high-end production value to a desktop presentation by allowing you to set up "shots" with composited elements in them like title overlays, etc in preview. You can then "go live" with them...pushing them to a streaming webcasting service like Ustream.tv, Justin.tv, or Sermon.net.  Their higher-end version Wirecast 4 Pro ($995) even has virtual 3D sets, and chroma keying capability with remote IP camera switching, for more complex live simulcast events and can handle more demanding HD feeds. 

Folks at Telestream.net are also in the transcoding business and can convert content in Windows Media, Quicktime, and Flash formats, depending on the needs of the end-user and the kind of viewing device used. Also see my previous post about Ustream.tv. WireCast 4 can feed to Ustream, if you need fancier production values than those provided by Ustream Producer ($0) or Ustream Producer Pro ($199 one-time fee.), but Ustream.tv is good lower cost place to start. 

If however  you or your organization ever get to level of web television sophistication demanded more system capability. what's nice is the fact the folks at Telestream also have a full Enterprise Product line with awesome products engineered to work together that can help you scale. At the same time, their Wirecast 4 basic version and their excellent tutorial helps even the novice television person started. They even provide helpful advise of about lighting set decently and about using decent audio. 

Wow, am I feeling grateful going into this Thanksgiving in 2010...and already beginning to consult with some of my existing clients about leveraging the power of the new television to move business phenomenally forward. Google TV and Logitech Revue - Here's What the Interface Looks Like...and Some of What's in it for Us

This morning Google TV and communicating what the interface looks like...and what's in it for us... is on my mind.  The interface made by Logitech is called The Logitech Revue, and with it you can watch what you want wherever it comes from - from the web or from TV... on your HDTV. It consists of a black box interface with its own microprocessor in it running Android and the Chrome web browser and a wireless full QWERTY keyboard with built-in touchpad that allows you to do all kinds of cool things, accessing the web...and accessing television on the web... as well as television ..on an HDTV. DishNetwork is the first on the block with it, selling for as low as $179 when purchased with their satellite service. Suggested retail price is $299.

The black box hooks up between a digital television box and an HDTV using HDMI cables and you plug your Internet cable right into it. The net effect is that this device seamlessly merges television data programming with web information. For more info see "What is Google TV?" on my New World Television Channel page. So what does all this MEAN economically... and culturally..for the small business entrepreneur, for the community television group, or for community-based educators, for advocates of social change and for our world? Though Google TV and this device just came out a few weeks, already the economic, cultural, and educational implications are far-reaching. Here is just a few of them for you to think about:

• Your own channel.. or series of channels can now show up on HDTV in living rooms, in board rooms, in classrooms and in training rooms and in retail locations....without having to access or pay for time on a cable channel..... and even after public access cable television facilities with older, more expensive and less capable technology with less business reach get shut down. 
• Your own content promoting your business, your program, or your product service can show up... without paying a dime for cable advertising air time, and cost of spot ads can be less. 
• You can author your own experiences on television, framing the world.. in your own best interest ...rather than having your experiences authored by someone else framing the world not in you own best interest....this is a BIGGIE for democracy.
• Entire communities can produce their own educational programming that can make a phenomenal difference in multiple peoples' lives, locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally.

The other great news, is that new technology is easier to use... and radically lower in cost... making the producing television possible for any person or group willing to step up to plate to do the new television... and to learn how to do it ...and mastering it well.  This is a whole new world communications landscape that is opening up before our very eyes... it's a whole new frontier... and the earliest birds... who catch the most worms...will win.
